Radio Happenings 2025.10.7

--. --- --- -..  -- --- .-. -. .. -. --. / or Good Morning..
Here is another beautiful Sunday. We had a shower a couple of evenings ago and the brown grass is not so brown right now.. the other colors -  in the trees continue to spread although some trees are quite bare.
Let's start out with the information from our President, Bill KB3KYH---
**  Greetings,

As you know, the club has been looking for a solution to the problem of poor coverage from the 147.360 repeater.  Although this repeater is the designated back-up to the 147.120 repeater, it struggles to cover the Green Bay area.  Well, I am happy to report that much progress has recently been made.  Brown County has given the club conceptual approval to install the .360 at one of their towers near New Franken.  The county has offered us tower space at approximately 185 feet and initial assessments indicate coverage throughout Brown County and well into Kewaunee County.

We still have some work to do to bring this across the finish line, but everything is moving in the right direction.  We’re currently working on a written agreement with the county and while no timeline has been set by the county, we expect there to be some rewriting during this process.  Because of this we should look at a few months rather than a few weeks for final approval.  We are also talking with a tower company on a price proposal.  Even though a few technical details are yet to be defined, their quote will provide a basic figure for our planning and for the approval by club members.

So far Sam KN9SAM, Paul K9ARF, Todd W9GRB, and I have been working on this and plan to keep the ball rolling with help from Paul, KB0P and others, as needed.

I’ll keep you posted on developments as things move forward.

Sam, W9SJR will be chairing the October meeting as we will be in Ohio helping our daughter as she recovers from some surgery.  Our Tech Talk will be presented by Bob Ronk, W9AP who will be talking about a DXpedition to Bouvet Island.  This will be very interesting. (Find Bouvet on a map before the meeting so you have a better appreciation of this DXpedition.)

During the meeting you will have the opportunity to nominate members for the Board of Directors.  In addition, your input will be requested for the Ham of the Year award.  Fox Hunts, the Ham Cram, and our Christmas Holiday Party will also be on the agenda.

This should be a good meeting and I’ll try to join you via ZOOM.

As always, please contact me with any suggestions or questions about our club.

73,   Bill
(302) 537-4755

  Thanks Bill.... .
The .360 has had quite a history.. When I moved to GB, the repeater was moved to Bellin Hospital because the .120 repeater had dead spots downtown.. After a few years, the location at Bellin became a problem because the room it was located in had a usage change and needed to be relocated.. The antenna was installed on the North wall of the elevator shaft and was purchased by the hospital and is still there today. The repeater was relocated to the present location on Broadway in the School District building which is slightly lower than Bellin because it was available. . As you know, the repeater was changed out with the Fusion repeater which also provided the VHF .360.  With all this, the need  to  relocate the repeater was still forefront to provide the membership better communication capability...  And as you have read in Bills note, it is being addressed but still has a way to go before presenting a package to the membership...
As Bill has also indicated, there is a FOX HUNT on October 12th, starting at 5:30PM on the 147.555 frequency.. This is simplex, so be sure to set your radios accordingly.. (good practice)      HamCram is coming on OCT 18th.. at St Norbert on the first floor of the GM Science Building across from the Chapel.. the VE testing for ALL levels begins at 3PM... See the flyer on the webpage...
The Tech Talk will be one to attend with an interesting subject of A DXPEDITION.. by one of the participants.. He has presented in the past and did a great job..
Keith, KS9WI was contacted by the Scout Troop that we helped with JOTA and a Merit Badge the last couple of years.. toward Luxemburg.. They are not having the merit badge session this year but would like to participate in JOTA as well as having a FOX HUNT!
This is also on October 18th.. starting at around 8:30 AM..Ending by 1PM..  IF you can assist, you will need your Fox Hunting gear as most likely the troop may not have any--PLEASE Contact Keith KS9WI.. KS9WI@mail.com   .
The open houses at the Kewaunee Pierhead Light house ended this past Saturday... It was a great year for the radio being out into the Lake.. Thanks goes out to the Friends Of The Lighthouse tor inviting us and allowing us to put up the antenna and equipment to operate... Also thanks to those that operated from there.. Mike W9MWP, Bill KB3KYH, Walt WA9TT, Larry K9IQ, Chuck  KØVSH, and all the others I forgot and dropped by supporting us ... Maybe you can come out next year..
The next two meetings are very important with the Ham of the Year and first nominations for the Exec. Board ... Please provide your input.. this is YOUR club...
    73
Stay Radio Active ....... Minutes of the last meeting are attached to the email and not in the web site.. If you want to see them again.. save it or print it... Late additions will be sent out as soon as possible..

RADIO HAPPENINGS 09.07.2025

 RADIO HAPPENINGS V.2

I hope everyone had a good holiday with the lower temps and humidity..

It was a warm drive home with the car windows partially open. For it was the last day of August and the middle of a three day weekend. Just coming back from celebrating birthdays of July, August and September in New Berlin at our daughters home. Looking out the windows at the country scenery but noticing the partial dots of color starting to show on the trees and bushes. Seemed odd because I did not notice that on the trip down. I was wearing sunglasses, so I removed them to see if there  was any difference in the view.

There was a drastic change- for now everything was green and no fall looking colors anywhere. I was wearing sunglasses on the earlier part of the trip so what was the trigger?  Taking a closer look at the sunglasses, it seems as if I had picked up the ones I use when riding my bike,..  (bicycle) They were polarized like the others but had a yellowish tan tint in the lenses.  They  must be like a filter for the different colors. Bushes had red tints, the weeds on the side of the road were looking dried up, the sumac had the dark red leaves but instantly turned green when looking with the bare eyes.

My Grandfather had told me to "believe half of what you see and nothing of what you hear."  and this was before AI and we heard about that at the last Tech Talk before the Club meeting.    But isn't that true in our daily lives?  Are we looking with filtered lenses.

Talking about the Tech Talk, our next one will be presented by Paul KBØP. He will inform us about the new communications available for us on our repeater via AllStar, Echolink and how to monitor the repeaters on Broadcastify.com.  This will be very educational .. .. We will post more information on the website under "Repeaters" ...

September.. School started, harvesting the work of summer, checking the antennas while the weather is still good. (not normal) ..time to plan ahead as we come closer to the last quarter of the Club year... Don't forget to check the calendar..   link is on the right side of the website.

Sept 10th is the Siren Test Net... We are getting close to checking them all for the year.. lend an ear.. List attached..

Sept 11th  GBM&K meeting... 6:30 Tech Talk, Paul KBØP , Allstar, EchoLink and Broadcastify..  7PM Meeting..

Sept 14th is the next FOX HUNT, 5:30, 147.555 . WØLFE will be the Fox... see if you can find him...

Sept 16th CQ Tuesday , Bay Family Restaurant .  11:30

Sept 20th  Wisconsin Parks On The Air  "WIPOTA"  Sponsored by the Eau Claire Radio Club starting at 11AM ...

If you are interested in trying to make contact Via Winlink without going through a node. (Person to Person or Point to Point or P2P) Every Tuesday from 8AM to 9AM or 6PM to 7PM on 14088.2 Center or 14086.7 dial if you do not  have rig control...Upper Sideband -low power-  to N8KQS. Send a short message with "Testing GBM&K" in  the subject line.

Pass the word on to those you know are looking to take the class for Technician Level... On October 18th, the Club's great instructor, Rick W9OBB, will hold another "HamCram" class . . This will take place in room 1095 located on the first floor of the G-M Science building,  usual time is starting at 9AM and ending at around 3PM... the Volunteer Examiners will then proceed to provide the testing session..   The testing session will also be available for those that are looking to advance their level of license to General or Extra starting at 3PM.  Those of you from other Clubs that get a copy of this letter, this is extended to you as well... be sure to look at the flyer when it comes out for email address to send in your reservation.. If you send in your email address, Rick will send you a packet of information needed before you come to his  Class...

If you pass the Tech test, be sure to ask for your coupon for a free one  year membership in the GBM&K Club.

A Letter from the Club President      ---                                                       ` Dear Club Members,                        Our meeting this Thursday (September 11) will be another good one.  We’ll start off with a Tech Talk from Paul, KB0P who will tell us all about the Echolink and Allstar capabilities we now have on the 147.120 repeater.  I’ve used Echolink on my cell phone for many years especially when traveling, because it gives me access to the local repeater from anywhere I have Internet.  It’s a great way to communicate when you’re away from your radio, but still want to keep in touch on the repeater.  If you have a few minutes you might want to download the Echolink App (there’s one for Android and one for Apple) prior to the meeting so you can take full advantage of Paul’s presentation.  I don’t have experience with ALLSTAR so I’m looking forward to learning about that from Paul on Thursday night

Things we’ll be discussing at the meeting will include the upcoming Fox Hunt, which is set for Sunday, September 14 at 5:30.  We will also talk about the nomination and election of board members, any potential changes to the by-laws, and Ham of the Year.  These matters will come up for voting at the November meeting.  We’ll also have a wrap-up on our very successful club picnic and talk a little bit about the Christmas Holiday Party.

I hope you can make it,                            73,

Bill, KB3KYH

Club Picnic Report

 Dear Club Members,

We had a great picnic today…wonderful food, thunder, lightning, rain, good company, and fire.  We had it all… but I don’t recall seeing any ants or mosquitos.  For the forty-seven of us who were there it was certainly a special event.  The brats and burgers were excellent, thanks to Paul, KB0P who did his normal top-notch job at grilling. We had plenty of tasty, sweet corn thanks to Dave, N8KQS.  Thanks to Keith, KS9WI for bringing all the soft drinks.  Kudos to everyone who brought side dishes, salads, and desserts…they were many and delicious.  As usual, the facilities at Osprey Point Park were just right.  We have Gene, AB9GK to thank for arranging this first-rate venue. (Gene apologized for the rain…he told me he would try to do better next time.)  I don’t know who to thank for the entertainment… the BBQ fire.  You will probably be seeing pictures showing several of us standing around as the flames and black smoke billowed out of one of the grills.  You might even see a picture of Paul holding a fire extinguisher as Todd, W9GRB removes a propane tank.  No brats or burgers were on the grill and there was no damage. As I said, it was entertaining.

A big thank you to Sam, W9SJR for arranging this whole thing.  As the Coordinator he had everything set up and ready for a great picnic.  Ensuring that everyone signed up in a way that guaranteed a variety of dishes; soliciting help with the set up and clean up; and attending to every detail.  Sam made sure all the elements of a memorable club picnic came together.  Good job Sam!

I’ll close by thanking everyone who came out and certainly all those who helped in any way to make this another Green Bay Mike & Key Club success.  A good time was had by all!

73,

Bill

P.S.  Mark your calendars for our next big event, our Christmas Holiday Party on December 12th.

Greetings,

I hope you can attend our meeting on August 14th…this Thursday.  The evening will kick off with a Tech Talk on AI…artificial intelligence, presented by Greg, KD9TNA.  You hear so much about this topic and now we’ll have the opportunity to really learn about it.  The Tech Talk will begin at 6:30.

Another big topic will be the club picnic set for Saturday, August 16th.  The club will be providing the meat and drinks with members bringing side dishes, salads, and desserts.  Sam, W9SJR will go over the plans and details and get everybody ready to enjoy this popular annual event.

Other agenda highlights will be Fox Hunts, lighthouse activities, funding approval for the 2026 Hamfest, the Echolink/ALLSTAR links on the 147.120 repeater, plus reminders on the election and the Ham of The Year award.

The meetings are always a great way to get together with friends and to meet some of our newer Amateurs who we may have talked with on the air, but haven’t met.  Get there early to find a good seat and have some time to visit.

As always, please let me know if you have any suggestions or questions about your club.  See you Thursday evening!

A REPORT OF THE JULY FOX HUNT

A Report from

Sarah Cornish Fox Hunt Chairperson

The July fox hunt was held on July 20th. I was the fox (AD9FA) I had (N9WVD) with me. We had three hounds. The first to find me was Scott - KD9LHY who will be the fox on August 17th. He will be using a HT as the Fox so hounds may need to drive around to hear the signal. The next to find me was N8HWV. Both Kd9lhy and N8hwv had kids with them enjoying the hunt and both found me with only an HT to track.  (Next generations hams). And the last to find me was AB9QC. No one knew he was hunting and he managed to find me after I closed the hunt and stopped transmitting.
I was both impressed and disappointed that I stopped the hunt              while  someone was still hunting. I did call out and ask for all hunters      to check in with me so I know that they were out there but never got      a response from AB9QC. They had a directional antenna and an HT          but said in the end they found me using an HT.

(Editor Note:: I thank Sarah for the report and as you see, this monthly event is a fun event. Other chairpersons are welcome to submit an event report for this site. August 17th is the next scheduled Hunt... )

Radio Active 7-18-2025

The Brown County Public Library Main Branch which is located on Pine Street in Green Bay, sent the Green Bay Mike & Key Club, as well as other non-profit organizations, an invitation to participate in their Food Truck Fridays event.
The club took up the offer and on July 18th set up a number of radio stations on the grassy area to the East of the Library. The two food vendors were in the adjacent parking lot.
From 11:30 until 13:30 (1:30PM) folks that came for the food, stopped by and visited with the members present... which was a great showing with about 14  there..  The radio bands were pretty good until the generators on the food vendors trailers started... but there were a number of brochures handed out and questions answered with some genuine interest in the hobby.
The weather could not have been better.. with shade from the trees and a slight breeze.. Some of the XYLs were there as well to join in the the event and checking out the Main Library after a nice lunch ... \
It will take a while to find out if the seeds we planted will come to fruition.
A big THANK YOU to the Brown County Library leaders for providing a great medium for those  that provide community service to show what they are about and possibly engage in discussion that may lead to joining the groups...   Plus the foresight of the Club Board to see the value of public display and scheduling this event...

Just some additional prior to the GBM&K Meeting

                             July 8, 2025 ..
Greetings,

It’s been a busy Summer with lots of Ham radio activities and events.  Hamfest, Field Day, CQ Tuesdays, Fox Hunts, Club Meetings, Brat Barns, Siren Tests, Lighthouse Activations…and some things I might have left off.  My point is that we have a very active club that offers many ways to enjoy our hobby. But…we’re always looking for new ideas that we can consider in our effort to provide activities that interest you.   Please come to a meeting and make suggestions…the next meeting is this Thursday, July 10.  Our Tech Talk will feature Todd, W9GRB who will be telling us all about the Star Link system.  The Tech Talk is at 6:30 and the meeting begins at 7:00.

The meeting agenda will cover some upcoming events such as the club picnic in August, Fox Hunts, the addition of Echolink and ALLSTAR on the 147.120 repeater, upcoming lighthouse activations and the July 12 Brat Barn.  As you know the Brat Barns are important to the club and Keith, KS9WI will be asking for volunteers to help out.  As I’ve said, the Brat Barns are a great way to meet and get to know fellow club members and interact with the (hungry) public.  Please raise your hand when Keith asks for help.

Unfortunately, I won’t be at the July meeting, but I’ll try to check in via Zoom.  (The grandson of an old friend is getting married in Minnesota, so I’ll be over there for a few days.) Our most able Vice President Sam, W9SJR will chair the meeting.

Please let me know if you have any suggestions or questions about our club.

 Thanks & 73,

Bill, KB3KYH

And from Mike, W9MWP...

Field Day Message

Greetings,

Another Field Day is in the books.  If you made it out to Osprey Point Park, you had the opportunity to share in the fun and good company.  The weather was near perfect and with no mosquitoes…as Wes and Gene promised.  Propagation was also pretty good, and we made lots of contacts.  The food was delicious and there was plenty of it.  The site layout, the antennas, the power, the facility, the visit by our Brown County Executive, Troy Streckenbach…truly an outstanding event.    All of these components came together because the members made it happen.  Whether you helped with planning, set-up, operating, logging; helped with the food, or cleaned up, you were responsible for another Green Bay Mike & Key Club success.  Make sure to thank each other and particularly show your appreciation to Gene and Wes, the field day co-chairmen.

Oh…I almost forgot to mention the special F-35 fly over and the demonstration of Wes’s submersible drone!  A good time was had by all!

As always, please let me know if you have any questions or suggestions about our club.

73,

Bill, KB3KYH

RAdio Happenings AGAIN.

Just some more radio events reminders. .. I used to post all the "important " reminders on the refrigerator but after a while realized I needed a plan to take them down after the event because I forgot to go to  them... HI..

Last weekend, some of our members activated the Kewaunee Pierhead Lighthouse. The radio conditions could have been better but the camaraderie of the group helped make the day go by... Also thanks to the operator that brought his  QRP rig out. Maybe he can be persuaded to bring it to a  tech talk and show what a small but usable package it could be made into..  . The weather was ideal on the pier and  there were a lot of visitors that stopped by on the way to Door County.    The next chance to set up there will be in the middle of July.  A perfect place to be in July..

The Lighthouse is in the process of being restored..  this is the old Radio Room.. With Larry k9IQ, Mike W9MWP, Bill K3KYH (taking the photo) and Dave N8KQS.. Operating a Kenwood 570 into a 19 foot vertical 40 feet above Lake Michigan..

The other reminder is this Saturday, June 21st -- Another Club Brat Barn at the DePere Festival Foods on Main Street W.De Pere.  Workers needed from 9AM to 5PM..

******      Then to round off your radio weekend.. On Sunday June 22nd -- we have  the FOX HUNT   Starting at 5:30PM tune to 147.555 SPLX  Find the Fox...

Still searching for that radio accessory?   Also on  Saturday, June 21st, is the FVARC Swap Meet (Hamfest) .  Their flyer is attached below.  With it are other vendor information....
A week away, June 28th and 29th, is the Annual ARRL Field Day
Inline imageAn annual opportunity to practice emergency communications away from home for 24 hours.  And you can be a part of it... We will start on SATURDAY around 8:30AM - gathering (if you want) at the Oak Street Cafe' in W DePere, a block North of the Festival Foods. for "breakfast",,, then leaving there to arrive around 10AM at Osprey Point Park, off of Cty GV.... The drive way is across from the U-Haul rental place.. Watch  for our banner (if it gets there before you) ..
We will begin to set up. . putting up antenna, pulling coax, setting up four radio stations, (bring your radio especially if you are going to operate CW ..) preparing for the 1PM start time... where we begin the "CQ CQ Field Day.. this is K9EAM calling CQ.""        Around 5:30PM we will gather around and have a Pot Luck Dinner .. the Club will be having some Brats there.. Please Bring a Dish To Pass...
It is planned to be able to operate through the night.. so if you cannot sleep, or getting off of a work shift,  come on down..  The event ends at 1PM on Sunday.... So we need to take every down and stored and "police the area".  Be sure to dress for the weather and insects.  Please remember to not put insect repellent on your hands or spray near the radios or laptops...  or wash you hands before operating.. (just like the doctor)Emoji

If you lose this email, you can see the above on our web site K9EAM.org in a few days ..

       Stay Radio Active.......

Radio Happenings lost articles from June 10th..

Good Evening..
As we continue to move into summer --  more things come along that we can join in on..  I hope to continue to add to our new Calendar which we will add as an attachment.. it seems the best way so far..
I hope you had a chance to go to the Club Hamfest a week ago... We had a record number of attendees of 265!! And some good vendors.. The "trunk sales " in the back parking lot filled all the spaces and we had to extend it six more spaces into the parking area.. And talking about the parking area,.. Our great team of "parkers" said the parking area was filled before the event even began... We even had folks from the U.P. come in ...  IF you attend the Club meeting on Thursday, you will hear how we did financially...
The Brat Barn also was one of our best financially as well..  It must be the cool weather ...
As you see, I am giving the new email another try... I hope all the spelling errors are taken care of..  if not let me know..

The folks at the Kewaunee Pierhead Lighthouse are having an Open House on Saturday the 14th. Couple of radio operators will be there doing an activation.. IF you happen to go there, come up to the Radio Room and say hi or get you fist around the microphone (could not say mike because there will be a Mike up there)   If you are interested in doing something like this, let me know because there will be four more opportunities there..   This lighthouse is one of a few that let people climb to the top where the lantern is...  bring your camera..  It is a nice walk on the pier ..

But tomorrow, Wednesday the 11th, There will be a Siren Test Net. You will find a list of the sirens that have yet to be checked as an attachment.. If you can spare some time, go to one of them, check into the net between 11:45 and Noon, and then after the siren is activated, check back in to Net Control and report if the siren had sound, rotated or if the disk inside turned .. of course the old sirens do not move.. The report goes to the Emergency Management Dept. .. if any are in need of repair this is where it is reported.. thanks in advance..

Thursday  is the Club Meeting. which will spend some time on Field Day information... In fact, Starting with the Tech Talk, it will continue into the meeting .. In a sense, it starts at 6:30...  there will have hands on the logging software and how it works... maps showing where the antenna layout is .. as well as times of gathering for breakfast (if you want), setting up, some of the rules, times for the Field Day Pot Luck dinner, and answers to most questions..
If you did not get the latest June Calendar in  the last email, let me know and I can send it again.. CQ Tuesday is the 19th...

RADIO HAPPENINGS 6.6.2025

The other new thing, is that we had to remove the calendar from the Club Site list. It was only letting Google members open it up.. After experimenting with other calendars that had the same problem, we developed a calendar that will be included with the newsletter as an attachment.. The June  Calendar will be attached to this one...

We will start off with the Word from  the Top .. the Club President's letter >>>

Greetings,

Hamfest.  A few more words about our Hamfest…it was only a week or so ago, but it seems like a long time…and I think that’s good because it means the 2026 Hamfest is coming up.  To make our next one even more successful, please think back and share your thoughts with Todd, W9GRB and Dave, KD9HJJ on what went well and what could use improvement.  They’re building a detailed list that we’ll use in planning our 2026 event. I hope your list includes some of the following:  great volunteers…Friday set-up and Saturday at the fest; exceptional donations from Gene, AB9GK that were sold at the club table; tailgate area was well organized and controlled; guest parking was very orderly.  This is just a start to my list.  I hope it will encourage you to contribute your thoughts and recommendations so our next Hamfest can be even better.

Field Day.  Our Field Day co-chairs Gene, AB9GK and Wes, W9WES, and the committee will present a complete run-down at the June Club meeting.  If you’re new to Amateur Radio, Field Day is your opportunity to get on the air and make a lot of contacts.  If you need some encouragement, there will be several “seasoned” members available to get you going.

Our June Tech Talk will include a detailed discussion of Field Day, and the use of computer logging.  Dave, N8KQS will demonstrate the use of our logging software so we’ll all be ready to go when we get on the air.   Remember…Field Day…Osprey Park...June 28th and 29th.

Fox Hunt.  It’s hunting season.  I was the fox on Sunday, June 8.  The winner was Matthew, K9MJC who found me in 43 minutes.  Coming in second was the team of Sarah, AD9FA and Kirt, N9WVD.  Nate, N8HWV also found the fox and came in third.  I’ll give a complete report at the meeting where we’ll also set a date for the July hunt.

Thank you for making the Green Bay Mike and Key Club such an active and successful organization.  Please join us at the meeting on June 12 (get there at 6:30 for the Tech Talk) as we discuss the plans and activities that make our club special.   See you Thursday evening!

Coming Events beyond here...

Another holiday has gone by already.... School is ready to close for the summer. (Are you packing the kids suitcases for Summer Camp?)

1) Soon it will be time to be part of another great event.. Museum Ships Weekend...Our friends at the Amateur Radio Light House Society  along with other groups are helping celebrate this event..  One of which is the Submarine Cobia. There are times where you  can operate the radio there as well... Here are some great links to both events..
*Signup to operate a radio on the Cobia... https://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050E48A9A828A6FB6-56619034-nb9qv

**To see the list of 100 ships taking part in  the Museum Ships event ... go to   https://www.nj2bb.org/museum/
See how many of them you can make contact with...

 2) Did you know that you can purchase Green Bay Mike & Key Club apparel ?? "No, how can I do  that?"  Well, go to the K9EAM.org website.. then on the right side, scroll down to where it is printed... Club Swag.. it has the latest Club Logo on the items.  . The orders go directly to the provider, and they do the shipping and everything.. the Club does not get any of the funds...

 3) In a few days, you will begin to see  the Club newsletter coming from K9EAM@yahoo.com ..The first time the Subject will be TESTING. Trying to see if all  the mail goes through.. "Why?" Well to put the names, call signs and addresses  of 158 persons in the main list ,, then to divide them into four separate lists.. I could not pick and drag to the new site.. so there maybe errors ... so would like to resolve it before something important gets lost...       PS...my email will stay open...

Got to go... got to pack tomorrow ..

While passing through Wisconsin, a couple was going passed the city sign of Oconomowoc ...  an disagreement of the pronunciation of  the name began.. So they pulled into a fast food restaurant. One of our travelers asked "How do you pronounce the name of this place?  The clerk... said:" Burrr... Gurrrr... Kiinng"

Radio Happenings..5.25.2025

Are you confused as I am when it comes to filling in the date on some of the QSL cards? Should the year come first or the month? When looking for the answer online, I get both as right..but depending on the area of the world you are dealing with.  If I am lucky, I get their card or certificate first and go by that..   Sort of a copy cat. . 🐱🐱🌭

To repeat myself, it is definitely a busy time of year in radio.. With conventions, hamfests, special events... it all becomes a swirl .. Oh I forgot Brat Barns. Yesterday on the 24th, the Club hosted a Brat Barn at the De Pere Festival store and did quite well. . a little over $1,000 in profit for the coffers.  (coffers = Overall, a coffer symbolizes a place of safekeeping for valuables) Thanks to all that helped and those that came to purchase some of the product. . 🌭🌭🌭

Coming up>> This coming weekend> Friday May 30th- Setting up for our Hamfest !...  all hands on deck- 4PM  You are needed to help  set up the hall for the Hamfest.. Setting up tables, chairs, helping the key vendor bring in their items, preparing the parking and trunk sales areas. Our Saviour Lutheran Church area. 120 Henry and Deckner, East Side of Green Bay..
HAMFEST Saturday, May 31st.. Volunteers for all areas should show up at 5:30AM.. Vendors are coming at 6AM to set up their areas.
smeter[1].gif
The weather on Friday is to be warm w/possible showers..so prepare accordingly.. Saturday is looking good with no rain and perfect temps;.   You can come and look over the 'goodies" and find something you did not know you needed..  There will be a Club table set up with items from the club.  We do not need to store things that we do not need as a Club..  Make an offer!! Everything sold off that table the funds all go to the Club.  The Yaesu DX3000D will be one of the items.  . IF you listen to the .120 repeater on a windy day, you may have encountered some "breaking up" of the signal. We may have to hire a climber to check all the connections on the hard line to the antenna and funds will be needed for that...

AND POOOF, before you know it, June12th is here with the next Club meeting..  The Tech Talk and Club meeting in June will highlight Field Day... N8KQS will show some of the highlights of the N3FJP logging software that we will be using so we can be more comfortable with it. W9WES will cover the rules and other nuts and bolts of the event...as well as some things that may be different in our setting up...*** a couple of weeks later, we can gather together for the Annual ARRL Field Day event. Mark your calendars.. June 28-29.. at Osprey Point Park, off of GV.  As in the past, those that want to, can gather for breakfast or just a coffee at the Oak Street Cafe' in W.De Pere, then head out to set up. There will  be a lot more information coming out as it comes closer.. but get your gear ready.  A good time to try out some of your field set ups.  The Committee has scoped out the park  and has marked out antenna locations as so not to interfere with others..      Someone said "Old Mike will be at Field Day" and sent a picture...

          OldMike.jpg
Someone checked into the East Coast Reflector.. They reciprocated by sending us a link to their newsletter.. very impressive!! Worth your time to look it over.  Here is a link to it...
What do you think?  Should we post a copy of the others when they come in? or will you subscribe on your own.. ??

RADIO HAPPENINGS 5.4.2025

WELCOME TO OUR NEWEST RADIO OPERATORS.. !!

I hope you enjoyed our Sunday Weather... And the future weather does not look bad either.  😎

Wish the temps were better yesterday.. a bunch of hams got together in Kewaunee and set up our field units to show what we used and how they worked. Sort of a "prepper" exercise.. In case of some emergency, it would be good to know how to use someone else's radio gear.  or how to improve what we have already.... It was cold but the camaraderie was warm... Thanks Walt.. (●'◡'●)

Radio Happenings bits and pieces 4-20-2025

   Happy Easter!!

It is like the official opening of Spring. The daffodils are beginning to show their beauty. The tulips are just showing their leaves, and the hyacinth are coming in second after the crocus.  The ground is soft enough to put in the grounding rod...🌹
Although we await the 350,000 people to invade the city, we have begun the Draft Special Event. The event runs through the 30th of this month. If you want to participate in  this event, just send an email to : KS9WI@mail.com.  He will send you a link to the sign in form where you can pick the day and times that you want to operate.. There will be a list of the frequencies that are available as well as where to send your logging so the contacts can be validated when they ask for a certificate. As  this is a once in a lifetime event from Green Bay, there should be a lot of possible contacts to be made.  You can do this from your own home station ... you can even invite someone to partner with you..  Thanks in advance.... 🎧👫🍻

I have found that the memory in my/our Kenwood 570 has faded away.. that is, the list of favorite frequencies. Found the solution to this.. there is a small disc battery in the radio that has been exhausted. It was a simple procedure to replace it. The battery is a common one, the hardest part was taking all the screws out without losing one.. oh, be sure to unplug the radio. This may be common with other radios so that is why I mentioned it.. Seeing that the batteries came in a two pack, I changed the battery in the 570 in the EComm trailer as well. 🪫
