 Greetings everyone:)

   As we move through the busy summer and begin to catch our breathe and we sit back and take a hiatus from the hustle and bustle. Taking a moment to reminisce with friends over a wonderful meal is only part of “Lunch with Arde:)”

    Due to the unpredictable weather this event will be held indoors. It will be a buffet style meal with broasted chicken with the works like potatoes, gravy, stuffing, salads, dessert etc., I added beef tips as well. 

    At this moment I need to know if you would like to spend a few hours and a meal with our good friend Arde:)

    Time:

1:00pm  the restaurant closes at 

2 pm so our lunch will go into a private lunch and the chef will stay on to serve us. And if we would like something else on the menu it will be available if necessary.

If you would like to go and you have a significant other please bring him/her along. This is a low key event for some of Ardie’s friends. We are hoping that All of you can make this lunch with Arde a very special memory making moment:)

Radio Active 7-18-2025

   

  The Brown County Public Library Main Branch which is located on Pine Street in Green Bay, sent the Green Bay Mike & Key Club, as well as other non-profit organizations, an invitation to participate in their Food Truck Fridays event. 

    The club took up the offer and on July 18th set up a number of radio stations on the grassy area to the East of the Library. The two food vendors were in the adjacent parking lot. 

    From 11:30 until 13:30 (1:30PM) folks that came for the food, stopped by and visited with the members present... which was a great showing with about 14  there..  The radio bands were pretty good until the generators on the food vendors trailers started... but there were a number of brochures handed out and questions answered with some genuine interest in the hobby. 

     The weather could not have been better.. with shade from the trees and a slight breeze.. Some of the XYLs were there as well to join in the the event and checking out the Main Library after a nice lunch ... \

      It will take a while to find out if the seeds we planted will come to fruition.

     A big THANK YOU to the Brown County Library leaders for providing a great medium for those  that provide community service to show what they are about and possibly engage in discussion that may lead to joining the groups...   Plus the foresight of the Club Board to see the value of public display and scheduling this event... 

Just some additional prior to the GBM&K Meeting

Greetings,

        It’s been a busy Summer with lots of Ham radio activities and events.  Hamfest, Field Day, CQ Tuesdays, Fox Hunts, Club Meetings, Brat Barns, Siren Tests, Lighthouse Activations…and some things I might have left off.  My point is that we have a very active club that offers many ways to enjoy our hobby. But…we’re always looking for new ideas that we can consider in our effort to provide activities that interest you.   Please come to a meeting and make suggestions…the next meeting is this Thursday, July 10.  Our Tech Talk will feature Todd, W9GRB who will be telling us all about the Star Link system.  The Tech Talk is at 6:30 and the meeting begins at 7:00.

      The meeting agenda will cover some upcoming events such as the club picnic in August, Fox Hunts, the addition of Echolink and ALLSTAR on the 147.120 repeater, upcoming lighthouse activations and the July 12 Brat Barn.  As you know the Brat Barns are important to the club and Keith, KS9WI will be asking for volunteers to help out.  As I’ve said, the Brat Barns are a great way to meet and get to know fellow club members and interact with the (hungry) public.  Please raise your hand when Keith asks for help.

       Unfortunately, I won’t be at the July meeting, but I’ll try to check in via Zoom.  (The grandson of an old friend is getting married in Minnesota, so I’ll be over there for a few days.) Our most able Vice President Sam, W9SJR will chair the meeting.

     NOAA is doing updates to their VHF weather broadcast system. The station in Green Bay 162.55 MHz. is currently still on the air, but if you notice some day it is off this may be why. I found this on the publication Amateur Radio Newsline. 

     After checking the NOAA website a list of stations can be seen on a nationwide map that are off the air temporarily. A link to that web page can be found here: NOAA Weather Stations Off Air  I realize not everyone cares or even knows about the stations but I believe many hams monitor our local outlet. The article explains the update plan well.

Field Day Message

 

Greetings,

Another Field Day is in the books.  If you made it out to Osprey Point Park, you had the opportunity to share in the fun and good company.  The weather was near perfect and with no mosquitoes…as Wes and Gene promised.  Propagation was also pretty good, and we made lots of contacts.  The food was delicious and there was plenty of it.  The site layout, the antennas, the power, the facility, the visit by our Brown County Executive, Troy Streckenbach…truly an outstanding event.    All of these components came together because the members made it happen.  Whether you helped with planning, set-up, operating, logging; helped with the food, or cleaned up, you were responsible for another Green Bay Mike & Key Club success.  Make sure to thank each other and particularly show your appreciation to Gene and Wes, the field day co-chairmen. 

Oh…I almost forgot to mention the special F-35 fly over and the demonstration of Wes’s submersible drone!  A good time was had by all!
