Radio Happenings July 1, 2026

Green Bay Mike & Key Club

JULY 1, 2026

“CQ CQ CQ Field Day” .. that is still echoing in my ears. And it takes days to remember my own call sign instead of the Club call when on the air. The entry form to the ARRL has been put together and sent in with just one more bonus item to get documented.

The event started well with breakfast at the Village Grill on Hoffman Road. Then out to Osprey Point for setting up.. Thanks to the group that came to help, it went well and all was ready in good time. We had two OCF dipoles, a Hustler vertical, a Wolf River style vertical and an experimental dipole with a vertical leg.

The stations operated on 40, 20 and 15 meters. The site was ready for operating 4 A but we only had three stations operating at one time.

It was a big year for CW with Chuck K0VSH racking up 171 contacts on Saturday.  There were 119 voice contacts even with everything shut down from 10:30 Sat to 7AM Sunday. The past couple of years we do not have the overnighters like before.

We had the traditional Pot Luck dinner with lots of food and camaraderie. It was good to see families as well.

After breaking camp, we went to end the event with lunch at the Graystone. %%

Something new.. The membership said they were interested in a Club discussion net.. talking about equipment, events, and general Ham related items.. this will be a directed net with a net control.. This will begin with a 4 week trial.  On Mondays at 7:15 starting on the 13th.. on the new 147.360 repeater..

The Tech Talk for the July meeting will be building an antenna. You just need to bring the wire. The SO 239 and end insulators will be furnished. Be sure to have enough wire in case it has to be shortened or be longer than your original design…  Members will have the testing equipment for verification which may have to be done outside of the building.

Don’t forget that in the August Tech Talk meeting, there will be a “Show and Tell”. Please bring a project of yours whether it is a “home brew” or a “Kit”. These are the two categories  that will be voted on to see which has the most interest to the members present.

There will be one more Brat Barn Fund Raiser  this month.. if you can help, it will be appreciated..

%As we have more  radio events, we find that we have not had a QSL card update. There were a number of messages sent to the Club as Bonus Points and we need  to respond confirming those. The latest one still has  the Red Cross address. Got a design idea?
