Radio Happenings 8-7-2026 V1

Good Day to you all..
First off, lets take a moment to reflect on the events of last week .. the devastation of the communities in the Fox Valley.. Our thoughts and prayers go out to them as  they begin to rebuild their homes and lives.. Their whole lives have changed with uncertain futures...
Also want to thank our members of the Ham Radio family that answered the call to assist in Damage Assessment for that area .. One of the reasons we train and practice our radio skills.. For a long time, we have heard that "nothing ever happens here." Well it does happen and most likely will happen again now that "tornado alley" has moved Northerly. Will you be prepared?
The Antenna build went well at the last Tech Talk.. Might do it again during Field Day next year... {Please see Ham cartoon below)

There are Club events taking place this Month of August..
Aug 7th is National Lighthouse Day.. The Amateur Radio Light House Society in the USA, will be having Special Events to commemorate this on Saturday Aug 8th ,  If you wish to join in ,, we have arranged to use the Kewaunee Pierhead Lighthouse this  year for that... 10AM to 3PM.. There is one antenna there with connections in their Radio Room.
Aug 12th is the second Wednesday of the Month which means it is Siren Test Net.  If there aren't any storms in the area, the sirens will sound at noon.. You will find a list of the sirens attached .. observe if it sounds and/or rotates and let the Net Control know your observations .. Please try to pick one that has not been checked yet.. (147.120 repeater)
Aug 13th is the Club meeting .. The Tech Talk at 6:30 will feature the Show And Tell of Kit building and Homebrew building.   The Meeting at 7ish will have a lot of information about activities coming soon and  the last quarter of the year.  Also an update on the Repeater (147.360) at Champion ...  We are very fortunate to have some of  the latest modes of radio operation.. to name a few.. Fusion, DStar, Allstar, Echolink, Irlp, ...
Aug 15th is the Annual Picnic.. it will be at Osprey Point 3346 Monroe Road (Hwy GV) Gate opens at 10am with lunch at noon (I forgot to note the official time.. taking a chance on this) Bring a dish to pass if you wish. Brats and Burgers will be on the menu.
Aug 18th is CQ Tuesday.. Lunch at Bay Family Restaurant  11:30

Please note that the Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) will be holding a  series of Practice Drills and will be using the 147.360 repeater on August 16th for a Simulated Emergency Test from Noon to 4PM.. Please extend the courtesy to not interfere.. and that also pertains to August 19th where there will be a simulated emergency test from 8AM to Noon using both VHF repeaters .. please do not disturb this event.   Permission has been granted by the Club Board for this.
Please note that there will be an addendum to this edition prior to the Meeting date..
