Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.
Today is the second day of Fall.. But with the climate changes we are experiencing, it may take a while to see the indications we "normally" see.... the trees, the frost etc.. But with the Halloween stuff sales becoming earlier and the people putting them out.. we know fall is coming. As Radio Operators that dabble in HF, we can start seeing an improvement in the DX (Longer Distance Stations) ... even though we are in the down turn in this radio cycle.

I was talking to someone on a POTA site and mentioned Special Events.. He reminded me that the POTA operation is like small individual Special Events. He was right... the site is the special event, and it is run just like one.. calling CQ and giving out the site number and logging it all down. As we talk about the POTA sites, it has surprised me the number of our members that are doing this activity... no one really talks about their experiences... maybe we need to have a Tech Talk having all those that have had that experience talk about their time at the parks.. Many have had 'contacts" with Park Rangers during the events and how they "survived" or how to avoid the situation..
Some dates that are coming up to make note of ::
October begins on a Thursday so it moves some of our activities .. Like the Club meeting will be before the Siren net this month.
October 3rd.. our last operation this year at the Kewaunee Pierhead Lighthouse 10 - 4-. Check out their Facebook or website..
October 8th is the Green Bay Mike & Key Club meeting .. 6:30 Tech Talk (TBD )and meeting at 7PM
October 14th is the Siren Test Net .. List will be sent out the Sunday before (the 11th)
October 20th -- CQ Tuesday... all welcome to the Bay Family Restaurant.. **We have been moved to a different room off the main room.. enter front door - turn left and go to the farthest corner .. they made a new room there.. . the far South Easterly corner.

Want to check how far your VHF set up will go? On Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays , check in to the Kewaunee net on the 147.270 repeater around 9AM. Tom KC9LNZ does a great job as Net Control.
